About “over and over magazine”

アイデンティティ、政治、クィア...それぞれ台湾と日本をベースに、この暗いディストピアな世界で、それでもやむ事のない小さな声を集めて、自分たちの世代で“変化”を起こす雑誌。

日本の政治は戦後からほとんど変わらずにここまでやってきた。何度も何度も失敗をし、歴史修正やレイシズムに加担することでさえも。そうしたものにピリオドを打つこと、同時に我々が見過ごしがちな日々毎日の暮らしという繰り返すものへフォーカスすること。アイデンティティや文脈を持ったものたちに目を向け、消費だけでないカルチャーの捉え方をまなざすこと。複合的な事物の編纂が「over and over」です。

Identity, politics, queer... Based in Taiwan and Japan, respectively, this is a magazine that gathers the small voices in this dark dystopian world and brings about “change” in our own generation.

Japanese politics has come this far without much change since the end of World War II. It has failed over and over again, even in its complicity with historical revision and racism. The magazine is a call to put an end to this, and at the same time focus on what we tend to overlook, the repetition of day-to-day life. To look at things that have an identity and a context, and to learn how to understand culture beyond just consumption. Over and over” is a compilation of composite objects.

Saki Sohee and Kai Miyaki met through the keywords feminism, politics, and Taiwan. Based in Taiwan and Japan respectively, they have created this project to bring about "change" for their generation by collecting the small voices that continue to exist in this dark, dystopian world.

What can we recall from the choices we make every day? The parts we see (the branches and leaves) are born from the background (the roots) of history, ideology, and other things that support them. However, these are buried underground and cannot be confirmed unless we dig them up. Are we able to "see" them and apply them to the choices we make throughout our lives? This is the question we would like to ask through the magazine.

East Asia and Narrative

East Asia” and ‘Asia’ are widely recognized in terms of culture, including food, fashion, cosmetics, and music, and we can sometimes catch glimpses of solidarity that transcends nationality and race. However, can we really “stand in solidarity” in the face of the unalterable facts of history? The voices of people living within the Asian narrative, and the choices that have been made, choices that have not been made, and choices that have been erased within the historical narrative. In this magazine, we ask the question, “What is East Asia? The magazine asks the question, “What is East Asia?

Brand identity

The motif and cover of the first issue is a rhizome. We found the meaning of the construction of transversal relationships and solidarity in the non-class-like appearance of the rhizome in contrast to the tree. In addition to the concept of the rhizome, we chose this flower because it is related to our roots (watering hole), and because water lilies are used not only in religion but also in songs, stories, and textiles in various regions of East Asia. The flower also signifies the intersection of the meaning of flowers blooming out of mud in Buddhism, the rare characteristics of aquatic plants, and our own minorities.
